Information Singularity and the Principles of the Analytics Rock Star

Overview

Information Singularity - Robot EvolutionWhat makes an analytics system great? Great design, quality code, strong business sponsorship, accurate requirements, good project management, and thorough testing are some of the obvious requirements for successful analytics systems. As a professional in the field, you must be able to do these things well since they form the foundation of a good implementation. This is good enough for most people but not good enough for you — if you want to be in high demand and help your organization overcome its critical challenges.

Successful analytics professionals should follow a set of guiding principles. These very important principles are often missed by traditional methodologies. In this whitepaper, you will learn about these principles that, once implemented, can make you an analytics rock star in your organization and increase your worth in the marketplace.

Information Singularity and the Principles of the Analytics Rock Star

Ever since humans existed on this earth, we have always had a need for information. For example, cavemen needed to know information about predators, enemies, and food. For thousands of years, the flow of information did not change significantly until printing came to existence. That early technology was followed by the industrial revolution. More recently, the beginning of the computer age marked the start of a significant change in the complexity of information processing. Today’s technology has resulted in a tremendous increase in available data which made the process of information collection and interpretation more complex. This is true for society in general but even more so for businesses looking for a competitive advantage.

When we focus on the business analytics field, this data explosion problem has directly lead to the rise of analytics systems over the past 30 years—starting with Decision Support Systems (DSS) and evolving from that point on to the latest entrant in the market—big data.

These disciplines and tools do nothing more than solve the age-old need for information that always existed. They are a means to an end. Businesses are facing challenges—information gathering has gotten more complex—and these analytics systems have evolved to provide a solution to the problem: to give organizations something the competitor does not have.
